Time to Mobile

How do you start your day?

What does it mean to spend our time well?

One way of thinking about this is to think about what you are doing, and that is certainly worth exploring. Another way of thinking is how you are doing, or to put it another way, how you are showing up. This is what we mean when we talk about mindset.

How we show up in situations, our mindset, has a direct impact on what we get out of them. Becoming more intentional and skilled in the ways we show up therefore has a very powerful effect on the results of these situations.

This sounds great, but how do we apply this practically? How does a shift in approach and mindset become something we actually do on a daily basis?

One way of becoming more intentional about how we spend our time is to be intentional about how we spend our time. That is, to begin each day by working out and setting down an agenda: what do I want to accomplish today?

Which brings us to the phone. For many of us, the mobile phone is integral to our lives, and it's the first thing we look at in the first moment of the day. And in that moment, your chance to go towards something that's important to you is lost - you're about to get hijacked by somebody else. Maybe many other people.

And it almost doesn't matter what you're doing - whether you're reading the news, going onto social media, looking at a WhatsApp message, someone else is now taking control of your agenda.

One alternative to this is to experiment with a practice we call TTM: Time to Mobile. In other words, how long do I go before I touch my phone in the morning? What is my Time to Mobile?

This is a fun way of exploring what happens when we create some time for ourselves at the beginning of the day that isn’t driven by someone else’s agenda.

Can you stretch your TTM to an hour, or even beyond?

As well as TTM, there’s another phrase we use: “Prioritise Prioritising.” In other words, figuring out what is important to you today is an important act in and of itself. Setting your own priorities for the day will go a long way to helping you make the most of that day.

That is our invitation for you; to make a practice of starting each day by writing out your priorities for the day. Find out what you’re actually trying to accomplish today, before you open yourself to the risk of being led elsewhere by your phone. See what TTM and Prioritise Prioritising does for you.
